DJs CONTRA
LA FAM (DJs AGAINST HUNGER) is an electronic
music festival with the live performance of some of the
best resident DJs in Barcelona city as well as some international
ones. The 24th of September 2005 took place the first
edition of the festival, at the Convent de Sant Agustí
(Barcelona), becoming the first event which involved the
electronic dance music circuit of the city with local
scope solidarity causes.
The remarkable support that this initiative had both by
the audience (684 tickets sold in competence with a great
number of free activities during the weekend of "Fiestas
de la Mercè" in Barcelona) as well as everyone
who made it happen (artists, volunteers, sponsor
companies and institutions) allowed to collect
6.039 EUR. Which were entirely devoted to furnish a fully
equipped kitchen and dining room for the Santa Lluïsa
de Marillac Social Work Centre for the poor in the neighbourhood
of Barceloneta.
This year the festival does a big step forward with the
collaboration of Mercats de Barcelona
(Barcelona Public Markets), who will permit the cellebration
of the festival on the evening of Sunday the 1st
of October 2006 from 16h to 24h in service areas
of the market - Mercat de Sant Antoni.
Likewise the press conference
and presentation of the festival will take place at
Mercat de Mercat de Sant Antoni (Barcelona)
on Wednesday 27th September at 12 p.m.
Very few venues are so appropriate as a public food market
to hold an event dedicated to make people aware and work
about the problem of hunger in our surroundings.
All the money collected (once more, the full amount earned
by ticket sales and drinks) will be assigned in this occasion
to “La Terrasseta”, a Cafeteria
Restaurant in the quarter of Gracia managed by the Rauxa
Cooperative (www.rauxa.org)
which functions as a Special Working Centre for labour
reintegration of marginalised people due to alcoholism.
This Centre has a free social dining room which every
night aids 152 people.
Three stages will be fit in the three service areas of
the market: one of them will be the chill-out
area coordinated by Hamaka
Festival. Besides the usual DJ sets, in this
edition there will also be live bands. As in the last
edition, music will be complemented with moving images
by video-jockeys (VJs) and a short films showcase (cinema
space coordinated by the authors collective Quick
Flick World). Rojo
Magazine will coordinate the set design.
