V Festival DJs CONTRA LA
FAM 2009
Mercat Fira de Bellcaire (Encantes Viejos)
Sunday the 26th of July, 12h to 24h.
The
Festival DJs CONTRA LA FAM is a benefit electronic
music and visual arts festival to raise funds to contribute to the development
of social initiatives that address local hunger issues.
Over the past four years, the Festival
has donated more than 33.000
euros and has been grateful for the participation of over 100 artists.
This year, our economic goal is
to raise 21.102,72 euros
to be donated directly for the renovation of kitchen
and dining facilities at
4 organizations
in Barcelona that provide services to and care for people living
in situations or at risk of poverty and who experience problems associated
with drug dependency and AIDS.
With four years experience working with entities in the social sector,
DJsCLF sees the festival also as a platform for increasing
awareness about the work the centers do it supports. This goes beyond
its direct economic contribution as it allows people to know not only
about the centers’ realities but also about the life situations
of those to whom they provide services.
For this
5th anniversary, the Festival will once again
take place in one Europe’s oldest markets, the Mercat Fira de Bellcaire,
better known as Encantes Viejos. The big change this year is that for
the first time ever the festival will take place in the summer.
Since the XIV century,
Encantes Viejos serves as an example
of Barcelona’s commercial dynamism. With more than 500 professionals
and retailers working year after year, day after day, occupying more than
15.000m2, serving over 100.000 consumers weekly, and home to the sales
of all types of products: old and new, artisan to high-tech electronic
goods, this market is quite a spectacular place. People who frequent the
market represent all types including some of the city’s youngest
and hippest crowds. There is also a sector of traveling salesmen who live
in situations of true marginality and social exclusion and whose only
means of economic sustainability is made from their work at the market.
The Festival will have 2 stages (Main and Club), the Hamaka zone,
the Organizations Fair along with the SHOWCASE PACAS, an artistic collaboration
with the collective Vaqueros de Barcelona: the city’s best street
artists, and for the first time the participation of the benefit project
SuperNanas.
12.00h a 16.00h. Free.
II Feria de Entidades (Organizations Fair)
(Calle Dos de mayo) & SHOWCASE PACAS
There will be stands for 20 non-profit organizations that work in the
social-cultural sector or are involved in improving problems of hunger,
the environment, human rights and poverty both on the local and international
levels. Many have been or will be beneficiaries of our
P.A.C.A.S
program or our Festival.
The
Feria de Entidades of the
V Festival
Djs CONTRA LA FAM provides the means for the public to know about
the work of these organizations and it also increases awareness of the
realities of the city and that of those with whom the organizations work.
SHOWCASE PACAS, in its second
year, is becoming an annual “special program” in the CLUB
stage during the early afternoon for those who have participated in our
P.A.C.A.S
workshops
(DJ, sound production, etc. etc.) to show us what they have learned and
for emerging professionals selected in collaboration with other trade
fairs, entities, and festivals in Barcelona.
16:00H a 24:00H. 10€
The
Main Stage is where Djs and groups
will perform.
The
Club Stage, is a bit more intimate, but
perfect to enjoy some of the best DJs we have.
The
Relax Zone (the palm tree zone) will be designed
by the ecological collective
Hamaka
and is a space for relaxation and full-time enjoyment of the atmosphere.
Vaqueros
de Barcelona, the city’s best street artists, return
to create live work that will later be exhibited and auctioned during
the 2nd year of our collaborative project
SPRAY CONTRA LA FAM.
SuperNanas will
create a
Silent Concert. A carpeted space to chill out
where live tranquil music will be heard through headsets (to tune out
surrounding noise and to create an intimate experience) that will be distributed
amongst the crowd: to parents and to kids.
Electronic Music + Social Action+ Urban Art together with public
support, the 300+ volunteers, and the help of public and private entities,
the musicians, Djs, street artists, visual artists, associations, and
press that will all be there are the ingrediates for a day full of great
music, sun and solidarity!
This will be yet again a great encounter of culture, social action
for the fight against HUNGER.
WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!
